Frequently Asked Questions
Where is my Home page?
You can go to your Home page at any time by clicking either My Account on the very top right of the screen or the Home tab on the top navigation menu. Your Home page is the first page you see after logging in.
How do I edit my stuff?
Go to your Home page and mouse-over to the Edit dropdown button and select whatever it is you want to edit. Note that such things as your Interests, Photo, City, Country, Birthday, Hometown, Announcement, Personal Quote, Keywords, and Biography may be found in your Edit - Profile page.
What is Bookshelf?
Bookshelf is where you add every book you own or have ever read.
How do I add books to my Bookshelf?
There are 4 ways of adding books to your Bookshelf:
- Through Search: Click on Add to Bookshelf when you see one of your books in the search results
- When you accidentally come across a book you have on any page, click on it. Then mouse-over to the More+ dropdown button in the upper left of the screen and select Add to Bookshelf.
- Add by ISBN: From your Home page, mouse-over to the Edit dropdown button in the upper left of the screen and select Bookshelf. Then click on Add books to bookshelf and enter the ISBNs of your books.
- BULK UPLOAD: From the same page as in the previous item, you may import a text file that holds a list of the ISBNs of your books, one ISBN per line.
While it may require a time investment on your part to build your online Bookshelf, it is well worth it. The more you build your Bookshelf the more easily other like-minded users can find you, the more useful recommendations you can get, and the more you can take advantage of the true power of Booknolia all around.
What is Nightstand?
Wouldn’t be cool to find out who else is reading the exact same book as you are?
Just like the nightstand in your bedroom, Nightstand holds the book(s) you’re currently reading.
If you want to find out what other readers or authors are reading, check out their Nightstand by clicking their Bookshelf tab in their profile. But not before making sure that your own Nightstand is current.
You may have no more than 5 books on your Nightstand.
Where is my Nightstand?
- Go to your Home page
- Click on the Bookshelf tab
How do I add a book to my Nightstand?
- First find the book (for example, in your Bookshelf or through Search).
- Click on it.
- Mouse-over to the More+ dropdown button in the upper left of the screen and select “Add to Nightstand”.
- Don’t worry if you haven’t yet added this book to your Bookshelf. It will automatically be added to your Bookshelf, also.
I’m done reading a book. How do I remove a book from my Nightstand?
- Go to your Home page
- Mouse-over to the Edit dropdown button in the upper left of the screen and select Nightstand
- When you remove a book from your Nightstand, it continues to stay on your Bookshelf
What is Favorites?
One of the most powerful ways of finding other likeminded people is to compare what Favorites you have in common.
Just as the term implies, Favorites is where you keep your favorite stuff.
When you add any item to your Favorites:
- You are immediately shown a list of other users who have also added that item to their Favorites.
- Every time you go to your Home page you will see a list of the recent activities related to that item. Cool, huh? Also see “What is This Week?”
- You make it easier for other likeminded users to find you.
Favorites are public. So if you don’t want others to see your interest in an item, Bookmark it instead.
How do I add stuff to My Favorites?
When you see an item that is good enough to be in your Favorites, click on it (to go to its main page). Then in the box near the upper left part of your screen, you’ll find the Add to Favorites button. Note that you may need to mouse-over to the More+ dropdown button before you can see this option.
Authors may have favorite Books, favorite Authors, and favorite BookRolls. Readers may also have favorite Readers.
What is Showcase?
Every author with a Booknolia account has a page called Showcase.
Not only can the author use this page to put up links to her interviews, website, articles, audio recordings, and so on, but any Booknolia user who comes across anything relating to that author may also put up that information.
How can I share something interesting I heard/read/saw about a Booknolia author?
Very easy:
- First find that author on Booknolia (for example through Search)
- Go to her Showcase page and click on the Post Entry button (you may have to scroll down to see this button)
- Enter a brief description (for example: “I heard her on NPR yesterday”) and the applicable link, if any (for example, the link to NPR’s mp3 link for that interview).
How do I edit the entries in my Showcase?
If you have an author account, you may remove any entry in your Showcase by going to your Home page, mousing-over to the Edit dropdown button and selecting Showcase.
